The people behind Smallville are seriously hauling in the bigshots for the series, as they've managed to convince acclaimed actress Pam Grier to appear on several episodes. Michael Ausiello of Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that she'll be joining the cast, debuting in the second hour of the Justice Society-themed episode - "Legends."
Pam Grier's presence isn't just the highlight of the upcoming episode. The character she'll be playing is also quite a stunner. The news has it that she's set to portray Agent Amanda Waller, a DC Comics villainess that went down in comic book history.
A short background on Amanda Waller wouldn't be complete without mentioning organizations like Checkmate and the Suicide Squad. But what exactly does that mean for
Smallville? Since Grier's appearance will be on the Justice Society episodes, it can be anyone's guess.
Unfortunately though, the installment won't be able to accommodate two villains since it's been reported that Zod (Callum Blue) won't appear at the same time. Maybe Amanda Waller's fury will be too much to handle for Clark and the Justice Society. Even so, we'll have the Martian Manhunter returning then, so it won't be so bad.
But to get the gist of how major Pam Grier's stint on
Smallville will be, here's a brief check on her filmography. The actress has been nominated for awards numerous times, from her roles on both the big and small screen. However, she is best known for her performance in Quentin Tarantino's 1997 flick
Jackie Brown. This made her one of a few African American actresses to have received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress.
Since then, Pam Grier has been seen on
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and
Bones, while rising to even more fame with her character Kit Porter in
The L Word. For the latter, she was nominated for an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in both 2005 and 2006.
Now that she's headed to
Smallville, could it mean yet another award-winning performance and insanely high ratings for the show? We have yet to see, so mark your calendars for "Legends" as it airs early in January next year.
