Smallville and the producers have made public that the death of a major character will take place in the finale. Could this we Lex's swan song, or will another much-beloved character be taking a dirt nap when the Kryptonite settles? Warning: Spoilers ahead.

TheCW is, of course, the first and best source of information on the finale with their official description that was released this week:
When Clark discovers Lionel threatened to kill him unless Lana married Lex, he goes after Lionel to silence him once and for all. Lana tells Lex she is leaving him, and Martian Manhunter (guest star Phil Morris) makes a return appearance to help Clark stop Lex, who is trying to find the last wraith from the Phantom Zone in order to use its DNA to power his army of super soldiers. Meanwhile, Lois goes to Reeves Dam in search of information about Lex's secret lab and is brutally stabbed by a security guard. Chloe's secret power is revealed.
Talk about giving the whole plot away! You'll get no subtle teases from TheCW, this is for sure. So much of this is really just the culmination of long running plot lines, which isn't so surprising for a finale. Note the proximity of Lois's incident with the revelation of Chloe's secret power being revealed.
Coincidence? Not according to Kristin Veatch of E!Online who reported "Chloe's power will be revealed during the season finale, and Lois Lane plays a large role in the big reveal. Sources tell me it is a lot like the scene between Peter Petrelli and Claire on [April 23]'s
Heroes."
So in other words, death mongers, the major character death is a rouse. The character who dies will be Lois, only to be resurrected by Chloe. A Dues Ex Machina likely to illicit a groan from even the most hardened super hero fan.
No doubt in the long run, fans won't complain. Aside from the already announced departure of Rosenbaum's Lex Luthor in season seven of Smallville, the loss of Clark, Lois, Lana, or Chloe on a permanent basis would sure prove a bit much to handle.
