John Glover as Lionel Luthor

Born on August 7, 1944 in Salisbury, Maryland, John Glover is best known for his portrayal of numerous villains in both the small and big screens. He attended Towson State Teacher's College (now known as Towson University), where he started acting, and after his graduation, went on to build a prolific career in the theater. He performed off-Broadway for one decade, but it was his performance in a production of Julia, where he starred opposite Jane Fonda, which catapulted him to stardom.

Following his success on stage, Glover relocated to Los Angeles, where he was eventually cast as AIDS patient Victor DiMato in the made-for-tv movie, The Early Frost. His portrayal garnered him a 1986 Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or a Special. This would not be Glover's last critically-acclaimed performance, as he went to earn more Emmy nominations and other various recognitions for his acting prowess.

His other noteworthy performances include the films 52 Pick-Up, Batman and Robin (where he portrayed mad scientist Dr. Jason Woodrue), Gremlins 2: The New Batch (for which he received a Saturn Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor), Masquerade, Payback, Annie Hall and Love! Valour! Compassion! (the film adaptation of a play with the same name for which Glover received a 1995 Tony Award and an OBIE Award for Best Actor).

His other Emmy-nominated performances were in the small screen productions Frasier, LA Law, Nutcracker: Money, Madness & Murder and Crime and Punishment. His additional television credits include The Tempest, Dead By Midnight, Assault at West Point: The Court-Martial of Johnson Whittaker, The Ray Bradbury Theater, Tales from the Crypt, A Season of Giants, What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?, Traveling Man, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, South Beach, Chicago Hope, Snoops, Brimstone, Arli$$, Numb3rs and Law & Order: Criminal Intent.

His acting prowess on stage has not gone unnoticed, as Glover is also the recipient of several theater awards, which include an L.A. Drama Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Actor for his performance in The Traveler, and Lucille Lortel and Drama League Awards for his work in The Paris Letter.

At present, Glover is appearing as Lionel Luthor in the television series, Smallville, and spends his time working with the Alzheimer's Association and teaching at Towson University.
