The printed edition of Entertainment Weekly contains a huge season finale spoiler not posted online by Ausiello: "A long-running character bites the dust." Time to place bets? Ausiello fleshed this "scoop" out by saying that TWO characters will die in the finale, and unlike before, both deaths will stick. One person is male. He can't say yet what gender the other person is. One "qualifies as a
Smallville vet." The other is "not so much."
From Smallville execs Brian Peterson and Kelly Souders' talk with E!
-"All of [what happens] is in order to line up with the DC mythology,
we'll throw that out there too. Obviously we created our own version of
Doomsday on the show, but ultimately, everything we do in the finale is
in order to line up with the DC mythology."
-"It's not one of those things where someone just goes down and walks out
of it the next minute, unfortunately. There's a lot of doom in
Doomsday."
-In an answer to the question of it being Chloe or Davis who dies, the
producers confirmed there are two deaths, and it could be one or the
other, both, or "someone else" who could be thrown into the mix. There
is also a "metaphorical death" in the episode.
-Tom Welling and Erica Durance are both signed for season 9. Combining
that with EW's spoiler that Chloe doesn't die, Planet Krypton concludes
that Tess, Jimmy, Oliver and Davis are the most likely characters to
die.
Update: Erica Durance has said she's meeting with the producers to discuss her role in season 9, making it appear less likely she'll be one of the ones to die.
Also from Smallville execs Brian Peterson and Kelly Souders' talk with E!
-Peterson says, "We want the audience to ask the question, Is Chloe doing this because
she's starting to fall for Davis, or is Chloe doing this because she's
really protecting Clark? I think we walk that line pretty carefully, I
hope."
-Souders says, "For Clark-Lois fans, I think they will be having many fits in the
finale. We just watched part of it cut together, and I have to say
there's one of the most quintessential Clark-Lois moments in the
finale. It's so good. They have such great chemistry."
-Peterson says, "We started what will hopefully be a new focus of the show that we'll
be bringing in allies for Clark next year. We had a
lot of DC villains this year and a lot of DC heroes, and we're hoping
to continue that into next year. We teased a little piece of Chloe and
her arc and how she might play a role in that next year."
-Peterson says, "It may be the darkness before the rise of Superman
.
He's going to face probably his darkest hour I would say. He really was
on a trajectory this year, but he's made some decisions that put him
down a different path." Souders says Clark will be
"paying the price for some rather large mistakes from the finale."
Erica Durance revealed in a radio interview that she will be fighting with another female character in the finale.
Also from Ausiello: Legionnaires show up in the finale.
Cassidy Freeman told Entertainment Tonight that the cast members don't know whether they'll be returning next year or not. The producers are keeping them in the dark until the last possible moment.
From Planet Krypton:
-Not surprisingly Doomsday and Clark will battle.
-Clark's relationship with Oliver will also be tested in the finale.
-Kara may not be back.
-Other characters may also leave.
-The Black Canary returns.
-Kyle Gallner will return as Bart Allen/Impulse.
-Cosmic Boy will appear.
-Lois appears.
-Chloe's Season 8 arc has a "very tragic ending."
According to the official press release, "
CLARK AND DOOMSDAY FACE OFF --
Oliver (Justin Hartley) tells Clark (Tom Welling) he must kill Davis
(Sam Witwer), as Doomsday is a serious threat and must be stopped at
all costs. However, Clark struggles with taking a human life, so the
Green Arrow and his team decide to take matters into their own hands.
Lois (Erica Durance) takes on Tess (Cassidy Freeman), but the fight
takes a shocking turn. Meanwhile, Chloe (Allison Mack) gets caught in
the middle of Oliver and Clark's battle over killing Davis."
