Michael Hall is an Emmy Award-nominated American actor born on February 1, 1971 in Raleigh, North Carolina. He grew up an only child, but his father died of cancer when he was 11 years old. He went on to attend New York University's Master of Fine Arts program, and began his career in theater. Hall performed in the Broadway productions Cabaret and Chicago, as well as Cymbeline and Macbeth at the New York Shakespeare Festival. His role in Six Feet Under earned him an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, while starring in the ongoing Showtime series Dexter has earned him a Golden Globe nomination.

David Fisher is played by Michael Hall in HBO's award-winning drama series Six Feet Under. The younger son of the Fisher family, he helps his older brother Nate run the family funeral home business after the death of their father. David is highly conservative, and was even a Young Republican during his college years. At first he dreams of having a regular family with a wife and children, then is deeply shocked to realize that he's actually gay. He keeps this orientation a secret for some time, and has ambitions of becoming a lawyer, yet is forced to help with the family business after Nate leaves home to travel.
