Siren isn’t your typical mermaid story and Freeform’s recently released trailer and key art will tell you why. The upcoming fantasy thriller puts a terrifying spin on the traditional mythical sea creature and puts the spotlight on the coastal town of Bristol Cove.

Set in a small fishing village, which was once home to mermaids, Siren tells the story of a mystery woman who begins to wreak havoc in the small town. “This is real. We’ve caught something we’ve never seen before,” a man says as the trailer shows a creature with the head and upper body of a female human and the tail of a fish.

Described as a “primal hunter of the deep sea,” the woman is then revealed to be dangerous as residents of the town take precaution. “I’m drawn to her,” one woman says while another man says, “She is extremely violent.” Her arrival prompts the rest of the town, including a pair of marine biologists, to find out what brought her to land and wonder what else is beneath the sea’s surface.

Simultaneous to the trailer, the network also unveiled the key art for Siren, which features Eline Powell as a fierce and intimidating mermaid. Aside from Powell, the series stars Alex Roe, Fola Evans-Akingbola, Ian Verdun, Rena Owen, Sibongile Mlambo and Chad Rook.
