The second season of
Shark premieres tonight with D.A.s Jessica Devlin (
Jeri Ryan) and Danny Reyes helping defense-attorney-turned-prosecutor Sebastian Stark (
James Woods) with his homicide case after his sole witness is killed by a car bomb.
Fans can expect to see new faces this season, including actors Kevin Alejandro (
Big Love, The Young and the Restless), Kevin Pollack (
The Drew Carey Show, Life with Bonnie) and Orla Brady (
Family Law). Alejandro will play a criminal prosecutor named William Lyons, while Pollack will portray Sebastian's new boss, D.A. Lloyd Cutler. Brady will appear in a number of episodes as Sebastian's ex-wife, a role which was originated by Lindsay Frost in the pilot. Arnold Vosloo guest stars in the premiere episode.

As for the show's regular cast, series star Jeri Ryan said her character will be working more closely with Sebastian this season. However, this is not to say that the two will become romantically involved, and Ryan herself would vote against the idea should it surface later on in the series.
"The banter is what's fun, and fun to play, frankly," the 39-year-old actress said. "Once they sleep together, you either have a relationship, which is infinitely less fun -- I mean, it just is -- or you have discomfort because it's awkward and it's yucky, because they're not in a relationship.
"The tension is more playful and it's just better for the audience to watch."
For
Shark's second season, the network decided to move the show into the more competitive Sunday night timeslot, pitting it against such giants as ABC's
Brothers & Sisters and NBC's
Sunday Night Football.
"It is a vote of confidence for us," Jeri Ryan said. "The football in the East Coast time zone is going to be a little tough. But in general I think it's good."
Of working with Woods, Ryan, who appeared on
Star Trek: Voyager, said it took her some time to adjust to the frantic actor.
"We come from very different worlds," Jeri Ryan said. "With
Star Trek, you read it verbatim. You do not improvise. [Woods] is 99% improvisation. He paraphrases. He just goes off. It was something I wasn't used to when we were doing the pilot. So that was sort of an adjustment for me, trying to keep up. But it has turned out great."
