Kim Cattral was best known for her Golden Globe Award winning role on HBO’s comedy-romance series
Sex and the City. As the character Samantha Jones, Cattral explored loads of men with her conspicuous sexual appetite while trying to avoid any emotional involvement. Among the four girls, she was the most confident, outspoken and sexually unconventional. Although she projected a dominating and impenetrable façade, she later revealed her sensitive and caring nature, especially towards the end of the series.
Following
Sex and the City, Cattral did voice work in an episode of
The Simpsons and became the host of an adult documentary series entitled Kim Cattral Sexual Intelligence, which was also the title of her book. Eventually, her career centered on acting in films. She appeared in the Disney movie entitled
Ice Princess, where she portrayed the character Tina Harwood, the ice skating coach of the film’s lead character. She also starred as Jane O'Leary in the film
The Tiger’s Tail, a comedy about the impact of the Celtic Tiger economy on Irish people. She was also cast on the ABC pilot entitled
Him & Us as Freddie Lazarus. Inspired by the events of Sir Elton John’s own rock and roll past,
Him & Us was intended for the 2006 fall lineup. Unfortunately, the show’s broadcast did not push through. Furthermore, she also became visible in a number of British television commercials.
Cattral is currently working on two projects.
My Boy Jack, a movie based on the play of English actor David Haig, is about the life of Rudyard Kipling and his distress over his son Jack, who died in the war. She will also star in
The Devil and Daniel Webster, a comedy-drama about a writer who sells his soul to the devil in exchange of fame and wealth. She will be playing Constance Hurry and will be joining actors Anthony Hopkins, Alec Baldwin, Jennifer Love Hewitt, and John Savage.
