Kim Victoria Catrall was born on August 21, 1965 in Widnes, England and is the daughter of Shane and Dennis Catrall. She has three siblings. When she was a baby, her family moved to British Columbia, Canada and a decade later they moved back to England. She was educated in the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA). When she was 16, she left home to live in New York where she attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. After graduating she was given a deal and a year later she became part of Universal Studios' Universal Contract Player System. She became part of television shows, appearing on different styles and genres. Her productions include
Sex and the City , The Tiger's Tail, Ice Princess, Unforgettable, The Heidi Chronicles, Wild Palms, and Breaking Point among many others.
Samantha Jones is played by Kim Catrall in the television series
Sex and the City . Samantha is sexually liberated, confident, strong, outspoken and self-proclaimed "try"-sexual. She is the eldest of the four friends and owns her own public relations company. She is very loyal to her friends despite their fights once in a while. Samantha was diagnosed with breast cancer and in the end of the season gave a speech for a cancer benefit. She then received a standing ovation when she unashamedly admitted that she was suffering hot flashes.
