Cynthia Ellen Nixon was born on April 9, 1966 in New York City, and first appeared on television in The Seven Wishes of a Rich Kid in 1979 and Little Darlings in 1980. She was educated R Hunter College High School and Barnard College. Her early appearances include The Real Thing, Hurlyburly, Amadeus, and The Manhattan Project. She also appeared on stage plays like Romeo and Juliet in 1988's New York Shakespeare Festival and The Heidi Chronicles in 1989. Nixon was also one of the founding members of the theatrical group The Drama Dept., and appeared in its productions like Kingdom on Earth, June Moon, As Bees in Honey Drown and The Country Club. In 1998 she was cast as Miranda Hobbes for the series Sex and the City.
Miranda Hobbes is played by Cynthia Nixon on the series Sex and the City. She graduated from Harvard University and her life is centered mainly on her career. Miranda is Carrie's best friend and voice of reason. Early on the show she is portrayed as masculine but later she softens up as she becomes pregnant with her boyfriend. She gives birth to her son and finds a way to balance her career, motherhood and her not so stable relationship with her boyfriend.
