The CW might be known for hot vampires and Tyra Banks' army of wannabe
models, but this fall it might do the time warp back to the '80s. The
network is developing a prequel to
Sex and the City called
The Carrie Diaries, centering on Carrie Bradshaw's teenage years in the 1980s.
The show stars AnnaSophia Robb taking on the iconic role created by Sarah Jessica Parker, and based on the first official image, it's a totally '80s series.
The Carrie Diaries also stars Austin Butler (
Switched at Birth) as Carrie's love interest, Matt Letscher (
Eli Stone) as her father, Ellen Wong (
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) and Katie Findlay (
The Killing's Rosie Larsen) as her best friends, Chloe Bridges as her nemesis, Brendan Dooling as her gay BFF, Stefania Owen (
Running Wilde) as her sister and Freema Agyeman (
Doctor Who) as her mentor.
The Carrie Diaries is
one of eight pilots being developed by the CW. Others include
the comic book series Arrow, a modern remake of
Beauty and the Beast, the
Hunger Games-esque
The Selection and the time-traveling musical love story
Joey Dakota.
