Marco Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar Gabriel Garcia Marquez appears in the Cartoon Network Adult Swim animated series Sealab 2021, parodying the original Hanna-Barbera cartoon Sealab 2020. He is named after Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar, the hero of an epic Spanish poem, and after famed novelist Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Marco works as the undersea research facility’s head engineer, and fancies himself a macho ladies’ man and Latin lover. However, he has had only minimal success in seducing any of the other females in the station. He is also a fan of the television crime series CHiPS. One of the catchphrases that Marco uses is, “I’ll give it a shot of Vitamin M!”
He is initially one of the most sensible and even-tempered members of the crew next to Quinn, despite his amorous oddities. When he takes the Stimutacs drugs from Sparks, he claims to have “the energy of a bear that has the energy of two bears.” He’s also revealed later on to have an illegitimate son, who also applies for a job at the Sealab. Marco’s other antics include eating a whale’s cancer tumors (which were delicious), taking on a feng shui decorator in an epic showdown, and confronting his secret past from 50 years ago.
