Life may be catching up on
Zach Braff, but he's not giving it any reason to pass him by. The
Scrubs star recently reflected on growing up and the responsibilities of adulthood, as he confronts the characters on his upcoming film,
The Last Kiss. There he plays 29-year-old Michael, surrounded by his friends who are all worried about turning 30. Braff admits that he knows the feeling of getting tangled with that sort of pressure, and he had no qualms about sharing his experiences.
“When you're in your mid-20s, you go, 'Oh, I'm not old yet, I'll be old when I'm in my late 20s,'” he said. “Then when you're in your late 20s, you're like, 'I'm not old yet, I'll be old when I'm in my 30s.' And I think when I hit 31, I [said], 'Alright, I can't (bleeping) fool myself anymore. I'm an adult.”
“I think society says when you're 30 or 31, you're supposed to think about marriage and settling down and having kids,” Braff continued. “Guys can push that a little bit later than girls can because of their maternal clock, but you can't help but think about it, and think about, you know, 'Who do I want to be? Do I want to have kids? Do I want to have a family? When should I start that?'”
“And if you're in a relationship and you're in love, you can't help but think when you're 31, 'Is this the one I'm going to spend the rest of my life with?”
Even if he's busy brooding on life's more serious issues, Zach Braff can't help but say a few words about his sitcom,
Scrubs. His contract may be over after the upcoming season, but he still hasn't decided if the eighth installment will be his last.
According to Braff, the new season of
Scrubs will be have “a lot of babies flying around” as well as “a show about abortion that I'm sure will generate a lot of mail.”
With the series' return this week, the actor said that “At this point we just do what makes us laugh.” It seems to be working though, despite having the show move to a new network.
Braff is also trying his hand at something new these days, as he's planning on directing, writing and starring on a drama titled
Open Hearts. He's also set to appear on the comedy
Fast Track this year. Even so, there's plenty reason to catch the actor in the two-hour season 8 premiere
Scrubs, tomorrow night at 9pm on ABC.
