The unnamed janitor on Scrubs
may have put J.D. in some tough situations, but it seems as though he'll soon be handling one of his own. Neil Flynn
, the actor best known for his work on the sitcom, has been slated to star in yet another ABC show. He's been cast in a new comedy pilot for the network, titled The Middle
Reports say that Flynn will be portraying the husband of the protagonist, portrayed by Patricia Heaton. The series will begin shooting in February, and is directed by Julie Anne Robinson. The Middle
focuses on this matriarch of a middle-class Midwestern family. Heaton and Flynn will play a couple, trying their best to raise their three children.
Now, The Middle
and its very premise may sound rather familiar to avid ABC watchers. The show was actually developed back in 2006 or 2007, with Ricki Lake on the helm. It was only recently resurrected, as ABC greenlighted the project eyeing Heaton as the lead.
It's a wonder how things will play out on Scrubs
, now that the Janitor was fired by the new Chief of Medicine, Dr. Maddox (Courteney Cox) on the season 8 premiere, “My Jerks.” Since Flynn is embarking on this new project, will his character be out of Sacred Heart for good? Fans wondered what happened when he didn't appear on “My Last Words,” but we're pretty sure we haven't seen the last of him.
Actor and comedian Neil Flynn gained his first experience in the industry through the stage, working with the renowned Goodman and Steppenwolf Theaters. In addition, he has performed at the Improv Olympic and the Second City Comedy Troupe. On Scrubs
, it was said that he originally auditioned for the role of Dr. Cox. However, the producers decided that he was better suited to be the Janitor.
Since then, Flynn rose to fame and became a regular on the show, owing to the immense and positive response of audiences to his character. Even though it's that role that shot him to fame, he has been seen on other productions as well. Films that he has appeared in are The Fugitive
, Mean Girls
, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, Rookie of the Year
, and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
. On the small screen, Flynn has had roles in Seinfeld
, That ‘70s Show, CSI
, My Boys
, and even Smallville
. Now, he'll be moving on to another role in the new ABC comedy-pilot, The Middle
