John C. McGinley Biography:

John C. McGinley (fondly known as “Johnny C.” by his fellow actors) has an impressive list of highly succesful movies under his belt. This actor has certainly done his professors and mentors at Syracuse University and NYU’s Tisch School of Arts proud. McGinley first came into view when he starred in Oliver Stone’s Platoon in 1986. In the next twenty years, he would continue to appear in many more blockbusters, often as part of the supporting cast. In 1997, he gained a starring role in the Fox miniseries Intensity. The role earned him critical acclaim. Four years later, McGinley snatched a starring role on NBC’s comedy series Scrubs.

Dr. Perry Cox on Scrubs is portrayed by John C. McGinley. If there is anyone who can equal (or at least come in second to) Dr. Kelso’s mean and surly demeanor, it would definitely have to be Dr. Perry Cox. He is a resident doctor at Sacred Heart Hospital and spares no time in keeping the interns on their feet. He does this effortlessly with his sarcastic and biting remarks and rather rude behavior. Unlike Turk, he is a proclaimed atheist, but sometimes finds himself turning to God in moments of weakness and solitude. Despite his intimidating front, he does seem to have a soft side for J.D. and an even softer side for Nurse Carla. His alcoholism is perhaps caused by his bitterness over his failures to achieve a more successful medical career.
