VH1 just can't seem to get enough of
Scott Baio, who just landed yet another reality series. The network has green-lighted an untitled series starring the 46-year-old actor that puts together eight male teen idols from the 1980s and 1990s to reflect on the highs and lows of “heartthrobbery.”
Baio, who most recently starred on the VH1 reality series
Scott Baio Is 45...and Single followed by
Scott Baio Is 46...and Pregnant, also serves as executive producer to the new project, along with Jason Hervey, who is best known for his role as Wayne Arnold on
The Wonder Years.
The untitled series will reportedly examine what life is like after stardom and what it will take to get their careers back on track. After receiving counseling from a life coach and industry experts, each of the cast members decides whether to attempt a career comeback or to swear off Hollywood for good. According to
The Hollywood Reporter, the show will begin casting shortly and is scheduled to premiere in winter 2009.
"The idea of gathering the biggest heartthrobs of a generation under one roof to look at their fame is a fascinating opportunity, especially considering the fact that our producers have actually lived and are still living that journey," VH1 executive vice president production and programming Jeff Olde said.
Baio catapulted to stardom as Chachi Arcola on
Happy Days. During his
Happy Days run, he earned two Emmy Award nominations for his lead performances in the TV movies
Stoned and
All The Kids Do It. He eventually starred in a spin-off of
Happy Days entitled
Joanie Loves Chachi with Erin Moran, which lasted one season. And In 1984, he starred as a male nanny on the syndicated comedy series
Charles in Charge, which aired until 1990.
Last year, Baio made his own foray into the genre of reality show programming with the VH1 reality series
Scott Baio Is 45...and Single. The show averaged 1.3 million total viewers and 1 million adults from 18 to 49 years old, ranking it among the top ten basic cable programs in its 10:30pm timeslot. This was followed by
Scott Baio Is 46...and Pregnant, which revolved around Baio and his fiancée, Renee, as he coped with the realization of becoming a first-time father at the age of 46.
