The Vice Presidential Debate is Tonight
Thursday, October 02, 2008

BuddyTV isn't a political site, and we rarely cover anything relating to politics.  But, how could we not mention tonight's highly-anticipated Vice Presidential debate?  Joe Biden, Barack Obama's running mate, will take on media sensation Sarah Palin, Governor of Alaska and surprise member of John McCain's presidential ticket. Sarah Palin has been the source of much debate in the media ever since her surprise addition to the ticket, but the controversy has only increased since CBS aired the extended interview she conducted with Katie Couric.  The interview was a disaster of epic proportions, no matter which way you slice it.  That it came out so near tonight's debate has ratcheted up the anticipation for the debate and exacerbated worries on the GOP's side that Palin was a poor appointment by the McCain camp.

Tonight's debate airs on every major network save The CW at 9pm ET/6pm PT.

Sarah Palin has been a gift from god to comedians everywhere, but no institution has benefited more from the Alaska governor's existence than Saturday Night Live.  Lorne Michaels made a priority of bringing look-a-like Tina Fey back to Saturday Night Live to impersonate Palin.  Not only have her two skits as Palin been uproariously funny, they've helped Saturday Night Live thrive in the ratings.

The first skit is a joint press conference with Tina Fey's Palin and Amy Poehler's Hillary Clinton.  Fey is ruthless in portraying Palin as a deliriously unqualified small-towner.  This skit made me sympathize with Hillary.

The second skit is a parody of Palin's Couric interview.  In a testament to just how bad the actual interview was, Fey's Palin actually seems more reasonable and lucid in parts than the actual Palin did during the real interview.

No one has any idea of what to expect in tonight's debate.  This has to be the most highly-anticipated VP debate of all-time, right?  Feel free to share your thoughts below.
