For those who have never seen the 1997 drama
The Ice Storm, a key party is a social gathering made popular during the 1960s and 1970s where in all the male guests throw their car keys into a hat and at the end of the evening, the female guests pick a set of keys at random, going home with the owner of the keys they chose. This is reportedly the central theme of Meyer's new comedy flick.
Seth Meyer takes the lead in the movie, which follows a couple looking to spice things up by going to a key party as a way to improve their love life, which in turn threatens to destroy their marriage.
Meanwhile,
Key Party isn't the only upcoming movie project for Meyer. The
SNL star will also be featured in the film
Spring Breakdown, a comedy which also includes
SNL player Amy Poehler and husband
Will Arnett of
Arrested Development fame. Although this doesn't exactly have the same storyline of the
Key Party, this movie hints of the same tone. The film is about three 30-something friends who wants to break the monotony of their uninspired lives by vacationing on an island that's a popular spring break getaway for college co-eds. The cast also includes Parker Posey (
Dazed and Confused), Amber Tamblyn (
Joan of Arcadia), Missi Pyle (
Boston Legal), and
Kristin Cavallari (
Laguna Beach).
