As anticipation builds up for the much-awaited Saturday Night Live hosting of eight-gold-medal Olympian Michael Phelps on Saturday, cast member Kristen Wiig says the swimming champion will need to show some skin for the sketches she’s preparing for him, unlike in the Beijing where he was constantly in a body suit.

“I’m excited to meet Michael Phelps!  He’s gonna be naked in all the sketches I write, for sure,” exclaims Wilg.  “There are some people that you can just picture with a wig on and it’s funny.  He’s one of those people.”

Right off the bat, then, we already know how Phelps would look like: naked and with a wig.  The question on everyone’s mind, however, is whether Phelps will be funny.  Sure, he’s an American hero, the alleged greatest Olympian of all time, but can he slug it off with an American institution like Saturday Night Live?

If you’d ask him, the 23-year-old said he is not so sure if he is a good actor or not, or whether he can deliver on Saturday or not.  He said he just hopes he will be funny.  Phelps is currently on a whirlwind tour that has taken him from NBC’s Tonight Show With Jay Leno to presenting at the Video Music Awards in what he described as “probably the best weeks of my life.”

“I love having athletes,” says Wiig, “because they’re trying something new.  It’s fun to see someone that you have seen do so well in . . . sport come on and do something they’ve never done before.  It’s very rewarding.”

Wiig is also very excited to reunite with her Saturday Night Life family, especially pregnant Amy Poehler and her husband Will Arnett.  Wiig says Poehler is “doing really great” and she’s “healthy and happy.”  Moreover, she thinks the greatest gift the baby can have is “having such a cool mom and dad.”
