The rumors can end now. Sarah Palin, the real one, will be appearing on
Saturday Night Live. This piece of news was broken, interestingly enough, by Senator John McCain during his contentious interview held last night with David Letterman. Palin's spokesperson later confirmed that the Alaska Governor will appear on
Saturday Night Live this Saturday, but offered no details about the appearance. Also unknown is whether or not Tina Fey will appear alongside Palin as Palin, or whether Tina Fey will be on the show at all. Regardless, the rumors can be put to rest. Sara Palin, the real one, will be on
Saturday Night Live this weekend.
Josh Brolin hosts the show this week, which brings up a whole host of possibilities. Brolin is the star of the new Oliver Stone film,
W., which opened this week (
you can read my review of the film here). Given that Brolin gave a marvelous performance as George W. Bush, it'd stand to reason that there'd be a place on
Saturday Night Live for him to reprise the role of our 43rd President. If I were a betting man (and I am) then I would guess that a Palin-Bush sketch would be in the offing this Saturday. How that goes down, though, is the real question.
Sarah Palin's advisors have to be wary of Palin making a fool of herself, or even looking the slightest bit negative. Like Hillary Clinton's appearance on
Saturday Night Live last season, Palin may come on late in a sketch next to Tina Fey's version of Sarah Palin. This is probably the best and safest course of action for Palin herself, because it would allow the comedians to do the heavy lifting. You don't really want to rely on a politician for precise comedic timing. Regardless of how it goes down,
Saturday Night Live continues to be appointment viewing this election season. I know I'll be watching.
