Bristol Palin gave birth to her first child on Saturday in Palmer, Alaska.  Bristol, 18, and her pregnancy became a political talking point throughout the election season.  Her mother, Sarah Palin, of course, was a VP candidate, and Bristol's pregnancy came out of wedlock.  The baby boy was named Tripp Easton Mitchell Johnston and is said to be healthy as can be.  The father, Levi Johnston, is currently studying to become an electrician.  Reports from the campaign insisted that Levi and Bristol, who have been dating for three years, intend to get married.  No wedding date is currently set, though plans are to get married in 2009.

Though Bristol Palin doesn't have any real connection to television, she was an omnipresent figure during the election season.  For all the time spent discussing the idea of Bristol as a symbol or whatever, we never really got to know her as a person.  She didn't do interviews – I don't think we've even heard her talk.  The daughter of GOP Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin was a polarizing figure, with pundits arguing about everything there was to argue regarding the teenager.  However, whatever controversy there was surrounding Bristol quickly died off, her story completely overshadowed by Sarah Palin herself, who proved to be a political lightning rod. 

Sarah Palin's legend grew even stronger thanks to Tina Fey's portrayal of the Alaska governor on Saturday Night Live, which catapulted the long-running sketch series to ratings glory.   Bristol Palin is currently finishing up high school by taking correspondence courses.
