Last week, BuddyTV published an interview that featured Robin Dunne as he shared his journey to
Sanctuary, the Sci Fi fantasy program that originally premiered as a series of webisodes distributed over the internet. Now, it's lead star and executive producer
Amanda Tapping's turn to shed some light on her character.
Best known for her role as Colonel Samantha Carter on
Stargate: Atlantis and
Stargate SG-1, Tapping took on the role of Dr. Helen Magnus, an English doctor specializing in xenobiology and cryptozoology who seeks to help so-called “monsters” by running the titular “Sanctuary for All.”
In an interview with itv.com, Tapping revealed that her character has an interesting back story, as well as an interesting history with several infamous people from history.
“She is a 157-year-old doctor from Victorian-era England, and she took over the Sanctuary from her father. He was one of those very forward-thinking scientists back in the day, and he introduced her to this incredible world. How she came to live as long as she has I can't tell you, except to say that in a later episode everything is revealed…The Sanctuary is her life's work and she believes that these abnormal creatures are the key to the evolution of our species. They're not to be derided or hunted or killed, but instead studied and protected. Well, most of them – some of them she'll go after because they're rather nasty and dangerous,” Tapping explained.
“She is sexy, savvy and unapologetic. She doesn't suffer fools, and she can see when people aren't being honest with her. She's an incredibly fun character to play,” she added.
If you haven't seen
Sanctuary, you can check it out every Friday at 10pm on the Sci Fi Channel. So far, ratings have been good given the show has attracted an average of 2.7 million in total viewers, becoming the most most-watched primetime cable entertainment program during its premiere.
