Previously on Samantha Who?: Though she still can't remember her past with Todd, Samantha and her former beau got their own fresh start when Todd reintroduced himself, hoping to begin their relationship from scratch.
Back for another season of trying to figure out who she is, Samantha (Applegate, in her Emmy-nominated role) will continue to examine who she was and who she wants to be while fending off a parade of potential suitors. One such man, a philanthropist, will be played by
Men in Trees alum
James Tupper.
In addition, Samantha will be reminded of the wild child she used to be when she meets a bad girl played by Mary-Kate Olsen. Samantha will view this as an opportunity to fix the problems she used to get into.
Though the show will maintain it's light, fanciful tone, it may be difficult for viewers to watch without being reminded of the tragic summer star Christina Applegate has suffered. Her friend and ex-boyfriend Lee Grivas was found dead in July, and in August it was revealed that Applegate was diagnosed with breast cancer, though it was caught early and doctor's say it is not life threatening.
Hopefully this sadness will not turn away viewers, as
Samantha Who? is as fun and light-hearted a comedy as you'll find on TV. Perhaps the biggest tragedy is that this is happening now that Applegate is finally at the top of her career. After playing the blonde bimbo on
Married with Children, Applegate struggled with mediocre films and equally mediocre TV shows. Then her luck changed as she won an Emmy for her guest appearance on
Friends and a Tony Award nomination for her Broadway starring role in
Sweet Charity. Applegate has done what few others had, turning herself from child star to leading lady.
