Rev. Run's career has run the gamut. He was part of the seminal hip hop group Run DMC, worked with his brother Russell Simmons on the Phat Farm fashion label, became an ordained priest, and now stars in his own reality show,
Run’s House.
Now, Broadcast Music Incorporated (BMI), a performance rights organization that works with licensing and royalties, is honoring Rev. Run as a “BMI Icon” at their Seventh Annual Urban Awards.

Rev. Run is being honored for his work with Run DMC, and their groundbreaking sound that helped pave the way for greater commercial success for future hip hop acts.
The Urban Awards is an invitation-only event that will be held at the New York New York hotel in Las Vegas on Sept. 7. BMI bestows this honor on a member of their organization who has had 'a unique and indelible influence on generations of music makers.' Other music makers who have received the award have been James Brown, Isaac Hayes, Al Green, Charlie Wilson and the Gap Band, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Antonio Reid and Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds. Rev. Run’s ceremony will include an all-star musical tribute, and no doubt members of his family, familiar to fans of Run’s House, will be in attendance to share in the celebration.
In addition to Rev. Run’s Icon award, An Urban Song of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, Publisher of the Year and Producer of the Year will also be named. Also recognized at the event will be the songwriters for the songs that reached the top spots of the Billboard R&B and Hip Hop charts.
While Rev. Run’s recent creative efforts have been focused on the Run’s House reality program, he is said to be expecting to record an album of collaboration with Kid Rock later this year.
