It seems like not a week passes without the
Run's House family making the news for attending, sponsoring or planning yet another charitable event. Well, don't think the holiday season will have the family slowing down. In fact, it's been a tradition for the Simmons' family Rush Philanthropic organization to hold a holiday party for at-risk New York City youth for eight years now, and this year was no different.
The event was held last Tuesday in New York City, and many members of the
Run's House family were in attendance.
Rev Run (Joseph Simmons) and
Justine Simmons were there, along with sons
Diggy Simmons, JoJo Simmons and
Russy Simmons. Uncles Russell and Danny Simmons, driving forces behind the Rush Philanthropic organization, were in attendance as well.
The event was hosted by MTV's Sway, and was also attended by DJ Jazzy Joyce, Kid Capri, Melyssa Ford and Hip-Hop personality Egypt. Styles P performed “Blow Your Mind,” and Fatman Scoop and wife Shonda acted as Santa Claus and wife. The event took place at The Fillmore New York at Irving Plaza.
Meanwhile, to help both create opportunities for young artists, and offer a chance for other philanthropic-minded individuals give back while giving gifts, Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation has also teamed up with Surface Library Gallery & Atelier owners Bob Bachler and James Kennedy in the East Hamptons for a “month-long charity exhibition, ‘The Gift of Art.'”
This special exhibition “features, in addition to the dozen artists on their gallery shelves and walls, artwork by the very disadvantaged urban youth Rush is dedicated to serve. The gallery has given over space to some of the youngsters' paintings, drawings and collages, along with text about their teachers and literature describing the Foundation.”
The special event runs through December 23, plenty of time for shopping so that, like the
Run's House family, buyers can give back during this holiday season.
