While some actors admit that they are nothing like the roles they portray onscreen, Bianca Kajlich acknowledges that her character, Jennifer, on the comedy series
Rules of Engagement, is pretty much the gist of what she's like in real life.
On
Rules of Engagement, Kajlich stars alongside Oliver Hudson (Adam) as newly engaged sweethearts. They explore the different and often confusing stages of a relationship along with a long-time married pair, Jeff (Patrick Warburton) and Audrey (Megyn Price), and a single guy on the prowl, Russell (David Spade).
When asked how much she relates with her character on the series, Kajlich said, “Probably like 90 percent. I think that in this world…being the world of sitcoms and comedy, I think its really hard to stray immediately from who you are as a person. I think that the job title may be different or what your character does may not be what you would do in life but I think your personality at the core of you has to come through in order for that character to be likable …so hopefully she's likable because it is a lot of me.”
“What I think that she is at this point… is something who really loves the guy that she's with. I think that she has had her fun and done all the things that she's wanted to. I think she's had a pretty crazy past but she just really loves her guy and I think that she is spontaneous and fun loving and a fun character to play,” she said of her character.
Kajlich, whose credits include
Boston Public, Rock Me, Baby, Fastlane and
Dawson's Creek, sheds some light on why she got hooked with this CBS sitcom and why she's glad that her show isn't just another
Friends-inspired series.
“Well first of all, it comes from somebody who is very funny being Adam Sandler and his company so right away that kinda gives it a mark of something that's a step above other projects. And I like that its not a
Friends type thing where all the characters are of the same age and same circumstances, same situation…I like that [there is] a married couple, an engaged couple, and a single guy and then it kind of makes it nice as an actor cause you're the only person fulfilling your role and you get to be something that's unique and separate from everybody else,” she explained.
Rules of Engagement airs every Monday at 9:30pm ET/PT on CBS.
