Adhir Kalyan has performed a number of productions in South Africa, including theatrical adaptations of Charles Dickens'
Oliver Twist and
A Christmas Carol, an adaptation of Salman Rushdie's
The Ground Beneath Her Feet, and the classical Shakespearean play
Macbeth. But in the United States, he is popularly known for portraying exchange student Raja on
Aliens in America, a sitcom that has won critical praise despite few viewers this season. Soon, however, the 25-year-old actor will be expanding his TV credits as he appears on yet another sitcom.
According to
Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello, the
Aliens in America star will be gracing the CBS series
Rules of Engagement, the comedy from the writers of the Emmy Award-winning show
Everybody Loves Raymond that looks at different relationship stages through the characters played by
Patrick Warburton,
Megyn Price,
Oliver Hudson,
Bianca Kajlich, and
David Spade.
On
Rules of Engagement, Kalyan will be appearing in the recurring role of David Spade's new assistant, Timmy. Meanwhile,
Rules of Engagement isn't Kaylan's only upcoming project. After learning that
Aliens in America would not return for a second season, he has also signed on to appear as a recurring character on the upcoming sixth season of cable show
Nip/Tuck. On the medical drama, he will play a Doogie Howser-esque young doctor who joins McNamara/Troy to help out Christian (
Julian McMahon) in the wake of Sean's (
Dylan Walsh) stabbing in the season finale.
Kalyan's other credits include the BBC series
Holby City as Arjmand Younis,
Spooks, and as Ramal Kirmani on
One in Fair City. In the big screen, he has been cast in the comedy flick
Fired Up, which will hit theaters next year, the romantic drama
Youth in Revolt, which will be released in December, and the comedy
Paul Blart: Mall Cop, which is currently in production.
