Rock the Cradle: The Well-Adjusted Vs. the Drama Queen
Thursday, April 17, 2008

Chloe LattanziWith Rock the Cradle, one of the latest reality competition concoctions, now officially underway, children of generation X musical icons can't help but showcase not just their own skills, but their various experiences growing up in the shadow of famous personalities.  Take for instance Chloe Lattanzi and A'Keiba Burrell, daughters of Australian pop sweetheart Olivia Newton-John and rapper MC Hammer respectively.

Both women were born into a life where they often went for long stretches without their famous parents.  However, the two have somewhat different views of their childhood experiences.

For her part, Chloe Lattanzi appeared to dwell on Olivia Newton-John being an absentee mom.  Lattanzi revealed on Rock the Cradle that she spent a great deal of time by her lonesome “in big houses” while her superstar mother went all over the globe touring and performing.

"My mum traveled a lot, so I think I missed out a lot when I was younger," Lattanzi said.  However, her tale of abandonment issues did not earn her any points with the celebrity judges of Rock the Cradle.

In contrast, MC Hammer's daughter has only fond memories of her growing up years, including when she was 10 years of age and she and the rest of the Burrell family were forced to leave their $20 million East Bay mansion after her once-phenomenal rapper dad plummeted into bankruptcy.  Despite the ordeal, A'Keiba insists she has no “tragic memories.”

"I actually remember being excited when we had to move," the Rock the Cradle contender confessed.  "I was happy that we were going to have neighbors on our street and that we weren't going to have a big hill separating us from everyone."

She also seems to possess a healthy attitude towards criticism and pressure.  Last week, when June Ambrose called her choice of conservative garb “tragic” and apt for a 40-year old, the 20-year old A'Keiba simply said:  "I understand what she's saying, but you're not going to see me with a lot less clothing.  I'm not going to be uncomfortable for her."
