American Idol with an edge. That's one way of describing MTV's newest reality competition,
Rock the Cradle, which aims to search for the next superstar. But don't pass it off as just another singing competition, because this time, they're placing the spotlight on the offspring of real-life rock stars to see if they can carry on their parents' legacies.
MTV has rounded up nine individuals who believe that they have what it takes to step out of their parents' shadow and take the music industry by storm.
Like a typical reality competition, there will be weekly performances, which would be the deciding factor for a contestant to stay and progress, or leave and forget about the dream. In fact, the competition heats up when drama ensues in the house where a bunch of kids raised by rock stars share their stories. If you think it's all glamour and fame, then you have got it all wrong.
Rock the Cradle will give us a chance to peek into the lives of Generation Y artists such as
Lucy Walsh, the daughter of the Eagles' guitarist, Joe Walsh. She has already toured with pop/rock singer Ashlee Simpson, and is ready to be recognized as a solo artist. We also have
Lara Johnston, who began performing since she was just two-years-old, due to the influence of her father, the Doobie Brothers' Tom Johnston.
Viewers will also get to see the son of New Edition's Bobby Brown,
Landon Brown, as he performs his self-written songs about his personal experiences. We'll also find out if
A'Keiba Burrell can beat her dad MC Hammer in rocking out some catchy tunes, and if
Chloe Lattanzi, Olivia Newton-John's daughter, can belt out intense performances just as her mother did in
Grease.
We'll also be checking out Kenny Loggin's son,
Crosby, and Eddie Money's daughter,
Jesse Money. Heavy metal fans will also be treated to some Twisted Sister memories with Dee Snider's son
Jesse Blaze Snider. R&B fans can also chill with
Lil Al B. Sure, who is Al B. Sure's son.
Each week, these contestants will battle it out on the stage to see if the judges and America agree with them—that they're the next big thing in the music industry. Ultimately, America will vote for that one contender who will be crowned as
Rock the Cradle's first superstar.
Catch these young celebrities-to-be as
Rock the Cradle debuts on Thursday, April 3 at 10pm on MTV.
