LAPD Investigation Unnecessary for the 'Rock of Love: Charm School' Catfight?

Rock of Love: Charm School, Sharon OsbourneThe recent scuffle between Rock of Love: Charm School's Megan Hauserman and host Sharon Osbourne has dominated the celebrity news circuits.  Reports say that the LAPD is currently investigating the “catfight” between the two, which occurred during the taping of the VH1 reality show.  With representatives from both factions still tight-lipped with their comments, people are bound to inquire.  However, others question whether police involvement is even mandatory for the situation.

Since the insulting retorts and hair-pulling occurred within a reality show, it's a wonder why they had to make it a big deal and bring in the authorities.  Granted, it's not a good idea to accost anyone, but we have to keep in mind that it's reality television.  Numerous incidents like these happen, and sometimes even as a publicity stunt.  Though we're not saying  Megan and Sharon staged the incident for the network.

Loyola Law School professor Laurie Levenson offered her view on the Rock of Love: Charm School battery allegation.  She told the LA Times that opening a police investigation based on a television situation is questionable.  “It sort of makes you shake your head,” she admitted.  “What's next, calling the cops during TV wrestling matches?”

“The bottom line is that we have limited resources.  Why are we using them for slapping on stage rather than shootings in the street?” Levenson added.  “Get a security guard.”  Apparently, that's what happened on set.  Security had to stop Sharon from preying on Hauserman, who actually provoked the attack with her offhand comment.

It's true that shows like these are created to pull in audiences, producing commendable ratings by relishing in the public eye.  Should the police even concern themselves with such a petty situation? We don't even know how much damage was done.  Also, no one has confirmed if charges are really to be filed against Osbourne.  She's already gotten away with some pretty wild things in the past, what's a little scratch on a reality show contestant to a rock-and-roll veteran?
