fans were waiting all of season 1 for Sabrina Spellman to show up in town. And yet despite all the speculation and hints, the teenage witch from Greendale never made an appearance in the season 1 finale. But will she show up in Riverdale
The cast and producers have given a ton of cryptic comments about whether or not Sabrina will show up in season 2. They've admitted they've talked about it, but they haven't ever given any real answers. Now Archie's KJ Apa has given us even less hope that Sabrina will show up in season 2 of Riverdale.
Speaking with Digital Spy
, Apa, said
he's "not too keen on exploring the supernatural side" of the show yet. Instead, we'll see a darker tone on Riverdale
after Fred was shot and we'll see "a different side to Archie."
Apa says that adding in the supernatural element could be "distracting" and he thinks Riverdale
should focus on character development and the town, but they could add it "later down the road." "But we don't even know if she's gonna appear in season 2 yet," Apa adds
That doesn't mean all hope is lost. Apa also told Metro
that "There has been conversation about Sabrina coming into season 2, but I'm pretty sure it hasn't been decided yet. It would be cool."
But he similarly added
that he personally thinks there shouldn't be any supernatural elements on CW's Riverdale
yet because "We're a young show, we're only on our second season, so we should be focusing on the town still, and our character development."
Apa added that you'd lose something from the show if you add Sabrina in too quickly. "As soon as you start getting too deep into that kind of stuff, you lose a little bit of the subversity that we have to the show, and the darkness, so I'd rather focus on that. Maybe down the road, for sure," he said
I don't think including Sabrina would be taking anything away from the show. And we have seen some supernatural things on Riverdale already. Jason's been seen as a ghost and a zombie, Archie sees werewolves, and more.
We had been promised Sabrina would show up in the season 1 finale, and she technically did since FP was reading Chilling Adventures in Sorcery #1 while he was in jail. This felt like a cop out. So were all the hints about Sabrina just one big joke? Will she ever show up?
