Revolution has been knocking it out of the park with its action, intrigue, and interpersonal relationships. It's the most watched new show of the season. With the major death in last week's episode, Executive Producer Eric Kripke spoke with reporters about that decision and what's coming up in the next few episodes.
Spoiler alert: The interview contains some Revolution spoilers for upcoming episodes. No major plot points, but Kripke does talk about certain upcoming events, when they will happen, and what will be coming up for characters.
Kripke made a comment that fans of conspiracy and mystery should love, "You should look for clues everywhere..." Let the scavenger hunt for clues begin!
Why was the decision made to kill of Maggie?
I think we decided internally that very early on that it was really important to show that this world had very real stakes, and that it was truly dangerous. And because, you know you're not close to hospitals, you're not close to paramedics, you're not close to help, and we very quickly realized that the scariest thing we could do was to kill the doctor among them.
What is going on with Rachel and Monroe?
[Rachel] is obviously holding on to certain secrets about why the power went out, and we'll reveal in [tonight's episode] ... a little more about what she in fact knows about the blackout.
And Monroe's been keeping her, you know as sort of a - in a gilded cage kind of prisoner; although, with occasional torture, so it's not so fun. ... She's a very strong character, but everything changes when Danny finally arrives in Philadelphia, which he will this coming Monday.
And so, now General Monroe has Rachel where he wants her, because she doesn't really care about her own well-being, but of course she cares about the well-being of her son. And so, he's really able to twist her arm and forced her to reveal things that she hasn't revealed to him yet. But she, of course, is you know smart and heroic and is, you know desperately searching for a way out of the predicament that she's in.
How long will the quest for Danny go on?
They catch up to Danny in Episode 10 and we climax that story, because you can't keep that story going forever. And we never had any intention of keeping the search for Danny going forever.
What will happen with Charlie going forward?
And for Charlie the question is: Can she become more experienced, tougher, stronger without losing hope and without losing her soul? And when she's exposed to that larger world that's a big threat, ... how much duress and hardship can she face before she loses what's truly special about her? Which is ... this belief in mankind and this belief that things can get better, because if she doesn't have that then she's lost and in a way we're all lost. So, that becomes one of her central character conflicts as the series proceeds.
Will Miles have to face Monroe?
in Episode 10, they confront each other for the first time in years, and we think it'll be pretty explosive and emotional. And that hangs over his head that he's on this mission and he's trying to do it to help out his niece and maybe redeem himself.
But, he knows that he's also going to have to face, his darkest fears, and that is General Monroe, because he has such a close and emotional relationship with him, and that they still really love each other. I mean, when they see other they're not sure whether they're going to kill each other [or] hug each other. And we think it's really interesting that, the hero of the show and the big bad of the show have such a close relationship.
Will Grace be back?
Yeah, I can't reveal too much, because she's right in the dead center of where the mythology is. But, I will say that we continue to explore and expand on that mythology. ... I think the next time we see her again is Episode 7, so not too far away. And we see who Randall is, this person who kidnapped her in Episode 2, and we get to learn more about him.
And we start to expand it because she is under duress with this character Randall, and you know she's in a dangerous position right now, and we start to tease that out. ... right now we're really dropping bread crumbs for it, because in the second half of the season Grace and Randall, and what's happening with their story line really begins to play a huge, huge part in the main story line of the show.
