It takes a special mother to have raised a conniving and evil -- yet beautiful and charming -- woman like Victoria Grayson. Thus, it will have to take a special actress to play that mother. The people at Revenge obviously think they have found this mommy dearest: The show has cast Adrienne Barbeau in the role of Victoria's mother.
As first reported by TVLine
, Adrienne Barbeau will appear in upcoming episodes dealing with how Victoria became the intriguing woman that she is. Revenge
executive producer Mike Kelley described the character to TVLine: "She taught Victoria what it takes to survive with very little, with wit and your looks, really," Kelley explained. "We will learn how the monster that is Victoria Grayson was put together, and we'll learn that there's a lot of damage that went into this little girl that became Victoria Grayson -- and that it was at the hands of her mother."
Considering that one of the main themes of Revenge
season 2 is the search for Emily Thorne's long-lost mother, we may be seeing a lot of parallels between Emily and Victoria as the season progresses. Victoria's mother is probably not mentally ill -- like Emily's tragic (and possibly dangerous) mother -- but Mother Harper did probably do just as much damage.
Adrienne Barbeau is best-known for playing Maude's daughter Carol on the 1970s sitcom, Maude
. Her later TV career has featured a great deal of voiceover work (most notably in cartoons related to the character of Batman) as well as regular roles in such series as The Drew Carey Show
(in which she recurred as Kim Harvey), Carnivale
(she played Ruthie) and General Hospital
(as Suzanne Stanwyck).
