The CW Orders Singing Competition and More Reality Shows for Summer
Monday, March 5, 2012
The CW typically goes dark during the summer, airing nothing but repeats
of its various scripted shows. But this year, the network is trying
something different. The CW has ordered a trio of reality shows,
including a singing competition, to air this summer.
The Star Next Door, produced by Queen Latifah, will be a typical singing competition, except the mentors (which include Gloria Estefan and John Rich) will travel to the hometown's of the contestants. Between American Idol, The X Factor, The Sing-Off, The Voice and America's Got Talent, among others, it makes sense the CW would want to get involved in a singing competition.
The other two summer shows for the CW are docu-dramas. One, Breaking Pointe, follows the behind-the-scenes intensity of a competitive ballet company (in other words, real-life Black Swan). The second show follows the young staff of The Catalina, a beach resort in Miami.
All three shows will air this summer on the CW, which will be an interesting experiment to see how the network does with original programming during the off-season.
