After Seth MacFarlane was criticized for hosting the Oscars last week, the Academy might go for a safer choice next year -- Jimmy Kimmel.

The New York Post is reporting that the late night host is the first choice for the 2014 Oscars. A source tells them, "Jimmy is favored to host the Oscars next year; ABC has been pushing him for the role." In recent weeks, the network has been relying on Kimmel more, which included moving his show from 12:05am to 11:35pm and directly competing with Leno and Letterman. He even hosted his own post-Oscars special this year.

If true, this would also come on the heels of Kimmel hosting the Emmys only last year. But a source with the Academy says that it is "way too early" for any announcement. And a spokesperson for ABC put out this statement: "This is a decision for the Academy. No conversations have even started on that yet, and won't for some time."

Speaking of the Oscars, McFarlane is taking heat for some of his jokes as well as a musical number. And now the Parents Television Council -- does anyone actually care what they say anymore? -- is coming forward to share their displeasure as well. They're promoting an online petition to make sure the Family Guy creator doesn't host the Oscars ever again (even though he's already said he won't return to host), and even posted some of the "offensive" clips on their website, saying, "Graphic content may be shown on the content and video tabs." Each video is given such labels as "anti-Semitic," "sexist" and "orgy."

The petition states, "Seth MacFarlane has built a career on programs that wallow in misogyny and anti-Semitism; joke about violence against women, rape, pedophilia, incest and bestiality; and even ridiculing children with disabilities. Knowing this, the Academy still chose to invite MacFarlane to host the 2013 Academy Awards, where he proceeded to offend and outrage millions of viewers..."

The PTC touts themselves as non-partisan, but has been hit with criticism themselves over the years, with people calling the organization homophobic.
