Real World/Road Rules Challenge

MTV Reality
Exclusive Interview: Tyler Duckworth of MTV's 'Gauntlet 3'
Tonight's episode of The Gauntlet will feature a very special and romantic storyline involving our new favorite MTV couple: Tyler and Ryan.  Tonight, Tyler will confess his feelings to Ryan but will it be a love connection in Mexico?  There are bigger things to worry about, though.  The rookies and veterans compete in two challenges tonight, "Screw You" and "Roped In".  The competition gets headed and accusations of backstabbing lead to an all out brawl between former roommates.  One male and one female will be selected for tonight's Gauntlet which means twice the drama!  Today, BuddyTV got the chance to speak with Tyler, a cast member on The Gauntlet.  If you thought Beth had a lot to say about her castmates in her interview, wait til you hear Tyler's take on everybody!

Below, you will find the complete transcript and mp3 of the interview.

Hey guys. This is Gina from BuddyTV, and today I'm talking to Tyler from MTV's The Gauntlet 3.  How many challenges have you done before The Gauntlet? Did you just do The Duel?

Yeah, Duel was my only challenge.

You didn't get to last very long when you were on The Duel, so did you come in to The Gauntlet with a new game plan?

You know, not really. Well no, that's a lie. I actually trained really hard, cause I was like you know, I'm gonna work out really hard, I'm gonna get my cardiovascular back to where it was when I was swimming. But no, there's a bunch of new kids out there so endurance means nothing.

When we talked to Beth she said that you guys had no idea what kind of challenge it would be or who was going to be there. Were you surprised when you showed up in Mexico?

You know what's funny, and I'll be totally honest, we all kind of talked to each other right before because we were trying to figure out who's there and who isn't. But there's always a couple of people who slip under the radar, so when you arrive there in Mexico you're at the airport and you're like, "Oh, I didn't think you were gonna be here." But, bring it on.

There were some old school players there too, like Beth and Coral. Did you have any opinion when you first saw them?

I liked Beth. I don't mind her, she's actually very kind. However, Coral is a very angry person inside. Very angry person inside. I didn't have much problem with her personally, however I don't think she said one nice thing about a person in the entire three weeks I was there. That says a lot about your perspective on life.

The veterans seem like they just can't get along. It's not surprising. What was the mood like on the rookie's team? What was it like for you?

Frustrating, because we all really wanted to do well. We all really wanted to win, and we all wanted to work as a unified team. However, we just couldn't make it happen, because we just literally, and I know this sounds like a sore loser, we just weren't as strong as they were.

The veterans were a little crazy too.

Yes, they're like in your face, blah blah blah, trying to use all these intimidation techniques. Whether I win or lose, I still have a job and I have a life after this. You people? Hmmm...

Well, there are certain veterans who just seem to live their life for MTV challenges and nothing else.

You know it's funny, because I love watching those people on TV, and I love watching them in person even more.

When the cameras turn on, does anybody blow up their personality? Say somebody like CT or Kenny? Or is that just who they are?

It's like do you guys have multiple personality disorder, because I have a hard time relating with a lot of these people because if the cameras turn on, all of a sudden they're a different person. In the past sometimes I've been perceived as a bit harsh or critical, but it's like if you have to interact with people who show two different sides of themselves based on whether or not a camera was there, you wouldn't respect them very much either. You're like well, you're fake, you're a sham of a person. I'm not saying a certain person is a sham of a person, but I think you get the picture.

People will do anything to get camera time, and they actually will begrudge people that are getting camera time because they're just being themselves. I don't know if you saw the scene in the first episode, but Evan was like, "God, are they killing each other in the pool?" And I was like you guys are just jealous because girls aren't attracted to people who don't have real personalities. Ryan and I have a genuine interest in each other and we're hooking up. We don't care if the cameras are there, and in fact I don't want cameras to watch me hooking up on TV because that hurts me professionally. I think there was a big divide between the veterans and the rookies. The rookies are like alright, we're here to win money, we're here to play the game, and we're gonna have a good time. Everyone else on the veteran team was like alright, I need to get as much camera time as possible.

Speaking of Ryan, on tonight's episode you confess your feelings for him. What was it about him that attracted you to him?

Well like I said before, when you're on a show like this, these personalities are just larger than life and somewhat, I don't know, they're fake. But with him he was just very real, he was down to earth. We didn't talk about appearances, or the show, or how we can get camera time and plot. Him and I just really liked hanging out. He was a really chill dude, he had a good perspective on life, and he kept it real. I'm usually very guarded when I go on these shows, and I'm like oh, I don't really respect any of these people so I'm not going to invest much, but with him and Brooke I really liked them. They were really cool people, and it kind of snuck up on me. It really snuck up on me.

Now you bring up Brooke -- you were hilarious in the first episode, when you first met Brooke. Were you surprised when you found out that now she liked to make out with girls?

I was on one level, but not the other. I mean, when does it stop? That's all I want to know. When does it stop, Brooke? What's next? What's next?

I'm not sure I was aware that Evelyn liked to make out with girls. Is that something that's been going on for awhile? I don't know if I missed something.

No, she's a lesbian. It's hard because she's the best player on their team, and with all the straight boys there it's really hard for them to be like oh, she's a girl and she's a lesbian. I think Ev's really cool. They all make tranny jokes about her. I don't know, I'm not here or there on the whole issue, I just like Ev. Watching her and Brooke was like all I wanted to do while I was there.

How do you think this season compares to other challenges in the past?

Honestly, I think this is the best challenge ever.

It's looking good, it's looking good so far. When they showed that preview for what's coming up this season, my jaw was on the floor.

Oh, imagine being there. The things you see. . .you guys don't even see half of it. There were. . .I mean, it was a mess. There were some nights where we were like Evan and Kenny disappeared for hours looking for certain types of women, you know what I mean? It was just like 20-year-old boys being 20-year-old boys, and then I felt like me and Ryan were the old souls of the group. We were like, "Alright gentlemen, let's shape up or ship out, come on. Get on the bus." It's a great season. It just gets worse and worse. I mean, it gets better and better, but the lows that these people sink to just get worse and worse.

Well, we're excited about it and we can't wait to see tonight's episode. I just wanted to thank you so much Tyler. I'm so glad we got to catch up with you.

No worries, I appreciate it.
