Nehemiah Clark wants to make one thing clear: He did NOT hook up with
Beth Stolarczyk during their time in Brazil, filming
The Duel. The two frienemies met up again this season on
The Gauntlet 3 and sparks definitely did not fly. Beth did not respond on the last episode when Nehemiah called her out for lying about the nature of their relationship but she certainly ripped him a new one on her MySpace blog this week. Today, Nehemiah talked to BuddyTV, responding to Beth's claims, talking about his music career, and why he decided to come back for another season challenge.
Below, you will find the complete transcript and mp3 of the interview.
Hey everybody. This is Gina from BuddyTV, and today I'm Nehemiah from MTV's The Gauntlet 3. Okay, so what challenge did you do prior to doing The Gauntlet 3?
I did The Duel in Brazil.
And what made you come back to do another season challenge? Was it money, was it TV, or did you just feel like being competitive?
I knew that if I came back, I could win.
So now, when you get voted into The Gauntlet on your first challenge, and you're going up against Alex, what were your feelings?
It really was just like I wanted that to be the tone-setter for the way the rest of the game was going to go. I just wanted people to know that going into The Gauntlet really wasn't something that I was worried about.
What happened? Did Alex give up in the end? Or, was he just tired?
He was probably tired and he gave up. Because the first thing we had to do, it was the best out of three. So I'm thinking that in his mind, he probably didn't want to go through what we were going through for another couple of hours because I think he didn't think I was going to give up.
Well, what is it with people who give up in these challenges? I've seen it in The Duel, The Gauntlet, The Inferno. What's the point of coming all this way and competing just to give up?
You know, I think a lot of people really don't prepare for it, and I think a lot of people aren't there really to win. I think that, for some people, the challenge is really just a way to keep their face fresh on television.
Yeah, I was going to say, I mean, you're there to win, you're there to win money, to be competitive, but there's got to be people who are just there to get some camera time.
Yeah, they want to get camera time, they want to get gigs, they want to keep that status of being recognized wherever they go out. They want to keep that lifestyle going.
Now, I'm wondering if you've seen the blog that Beth posted on her MySpace about you recently. Have you seen it?
No, I haven't.
Well, what's going on? Because she says that you guys had an understanding about everything that happened on The Duel, and that you were making a big scene in front of the cameras. What happened when you guys met back up on The Gauntlet?
Okay, so this is what Beth didn't tell anyone, okay?
[laughs] Yeah, tell me what Beth didn't tell anyone.
I'll tell you. Because, what happened was, the whole time we were there, whenever the cameras were on her, she would try to come up to me and talk, only when the cameras were on her. And I didn't want to tell her why it is that I didn't want any association with her because she uses her interviews as her little soapbox to get everything that she needs to get out. And that's where she most of her damage. So, basically, during The Duel, when she was watching my back, she would always come up to me and be like, "Hey, you got my back today since I had your back yesterday."
So basically, I started realizing that she was only looking out for me because there was no one else to look out for her. She wasn't doing it just because she wanted to give me a hand. So I noticed that on The Duel, and I started looking at all the comments that she was making, and she made everyone think that we hooked up, which was completely wrong. So that's what happened with that. So then, when we came to this one right here, she was trying to do the exact same thing. But I was only there to win, and I knew in this situation I didn't need anyone watching my back for me.
Well, it's clear that you didn't like the nickname she gave you. Everything in her blog on MySpace, you know, she was just referring to you as "Tenderoni," and I'm thinking, "God, he must really hate being called that." But where does that even come from?
You know what? I don't even know. I didn't hear it until I watched the show. She never even said it to my face. So I didn't hear it, and I'm watching the show and then the episode came on with, like, they got me the first night when I was drunk and I was just kicking her and that's like their clip of fame right there. That's all they can really use because that's all they had. So I had the nickname Tenderoni, and everyone on the streets are calling me that, it was just like, "Oh Lord, here we go."
So, is it safe to say that you and Beth are not friends?
You know what? We really don't talk. I mean, I had met her two weeks before The Duel because I did a calendar shoot, so that's where I met her. And then after The Duel, we probably only talked two or three times. I have fun with her. I mean, she's a cool person, I don't have a problem with her, but we're not as close as people think we are.
Are you cool, are you friends with these people that do the challenges, or are most of them just people that you see when you're shooting for MTV?
Some of them, and most of them, are people that I just see when I'm shooting MTV. There's a few people who I keep in touch with outside of the show, like of course Johanna. She's probably a really good friend of mine. Like, Frank and Jillian, I hang out with them now. I thought they were really cool. There's probably a handful of people. I mean, but the thing is, I did the show just to jumpstart my career, and a lot of people on the show want to make this their career.
Yeah, you have an interest in pursuing a music career, and how is that going for you?
It's actually going really, really good. I just finished my second album, and I've been working with some really good producers. I'm out in L.A. now, and it's going beautiful. I was just hanging out with will.i.am during the Superbowl. I'm very, very blessed. And I'm talented, so that's another thing.
Well, we've only seen a few episodes of The Gauntlet so far, but can we expect big things from you guys this season, a lot of surprises?
There's going to be a lot of surprises, and I know that what they've shown so far isn't even close to where it actually has been later on, down the line. So, I mean, there is going to be a lot of surprises for a lot of people. And I'm excited. I'm waiting for Wednesday because I don't even know what's going to happen.
Well, we look forward to seeing you in the finals, and we'll definitely check out your music on MySpace. Thanks so much, Nehemiah.
Nice talking to you. Tell everyone I love them and stay tuned and the rookies have some tricks up their sleeves.
We hope so. Thanks so much, Nehemiah.
Alright, sweetheart.
