Scott Lowell gained fame when he was cast on the series
Queer as Folk. As the character Theodore Schmidt, he initially worked as an accountant who often envied Brian Kinney’s lavish lifestyle. He got fired for viewing pornography at work and eventually established his own porn website business. Although often rejected by various men, he had a relationship with Emmett Honeycutt and an on-and-off affair with Blake Wyzecki. Throughout the show, he was haunted by his insecurities and low self-esteem. He even went through extensive plastic surgery in an attempt to grow confidence. Before the series ended, Scott Lowell earned several Prism Award nominations for Performance in a Drama Series Storyline and Performance in a Drama Series Multi-Episode Storyline.
After starring on
Queer as Folk, Scott Lowell landed a spot in the movie
Trapped Ashes. Showcased at the Toronto Film Festival last September, the film featured six strangers trapped in an infamous horror studio forced to recount terrifying horror stories just like in the movies. To add an even darker pitch, writer Dennis Bartok incorporated tales of infidelity, sexual obsession, dead souls, and twisted pregnancies.
On television, the former
Queer as Folk star became part of two episodes of the animated series
American Dad. He provided the voice of Brett on the episode “Lincoln Lover” and on “Failure is Not a Factory-installed Option” as the character Felix.
Lowell has finished shooting the Asian-American comedy
Ping Pong Playa, a film directed by Oscar winner Jessica Yu. He stars as Tom, joining actors Jimmy Tsai as Christopher “C-Dub” Wang, Roger Fan as Michael Wang, and Shelley Malil as D. B. Reddy. Produced by Cherry Sky Films, the movie is pending for release this year.
