Usually, reality television can happen at a frantic, churn-and-burn pace. New seasons are announced, casting happens, shows are shot and editing is completed, sometimes all within just a few months.
Not so with the follow-up to the surprise hit
Pussycat Dolls Present The Search for the Next Doll. It was mid-May of 2007 when we learned that the second season of
Pussycat Dolls Present would not be a search for another Doll, rather the hunt for a whole new girl group. Auditions started around that timeframe, and since then, there have been occasional bits of news. In June of 2007, we learned the group would be called Girlicious. In July of that year, there was an initial sighting at a minor league baseball game that ended up as a challenge in the second episode of the show. Last September,
Robin Antin gave some clues as to what we could expect to see on the show, including lots of drama (naturally) and a special boy band guest who would coach the girls on being a part of a group. As we saw in episode two of the series, that guest was none other than former *NSYNC member JC Chasez.
However, nothing thrilled fans more than the eventual reveal of the premiere date for
Girlicious. The premiere date announcement came on as part of the news of a change in day for another CW show,
Gossip Girl. Due to the Writers Guild strike and the looming specter of the invincible ratings juggernaut that is
American Idol, the network is moved
Gossip Girl, hoping to capture some new viewers who might not mind the show being in reruns.
Beginning February 18,
Pussycat Dolls Present: Girlicious joined
Gossip Girl on Mondays, airing right after the hour-long scripted series, at 9pm. If Mondays are no good for you, never fear! The CW has been encoring each new episode on Wednesdays at 9pm, after the latest cycle of
America's Next Top Model.
Now that a few episodes of
Girlicious have passed, we're starting to get a feel for who the top contestants may be.
Ilisa stands out with her bright red hair and unique look, while
Jenna and
Charlye have also been contenders to watch out for.
Chrystina and
Natalie may not have the most talent, but they do appear to be the girls most likely to start in the loft.
So if you have been anxiously awaiting the new crop of singers and dancers to take up the feather boas, it looks like you won't have that much longer to wait.
