Exclusive Interview with Chelsea Korka, Second Runner-Up on The Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search for the Next Doll : Part 2
How much pressure were you feeling going into your final performances?
How much pressure?
Yeah.
To be honest there wasn’t really much pressure. I kind of just had fun with it and that was with all my performances. It wasn’t just that one performance or that one moment, it was every performance I did getting on that stage with the girls and knowing the song and being prepared and being ready and knowing that I have that confidence to get up on stage and do it. I just wanted to have fun. I love doing it. I don’t want to over think it. When you over think it, that’s when you tend to screw-up sometimes and I just had fun with it every single time. I went on there I sang, because I love to sing, I danced the moves and I just tried not forgetting them. And I just did the best that I possibly could but I had more fun than anything. It wasn’t fear, it wasn’t any type of questions or anything about it, I just had fun. And just enjoyed it and lived it as long as I possibly could. And I’ve lived it quite far so I’m thankful for that.
What was going through your mind when the judges were making their final decision?
Um, choose the right girl? Ever since the Basque episode I actually already could have seen Asia inside the group. Because she won the confidence challenge, she’s extremely talented, great dancer. She’s also extremely kind. She helped me so many times and she did help me doing Crazy in Love. They said that Asia and Melissa S. didn’t help me and I did it on my own. She did help me. Asia always helped me when she possibly could. Melissa S. never did, whatever. And I was not choice or decision and me standing up there. You don’t really know what’s going to happen. We all had the chance. We all had the possibility. There was always that…it could be any of us, we really did not know. Because we all worked so hard for it. We all tried so hard. Melissa R. and Asia are of course more trained and definitely get up there and rock it completely. I mean I would need an extra two hours every single time to perfect myself. But I mean it really could have been any of us and so I was just pretty much standing up there waiting to see what they were going to say and maybe critique us or what we can do to help us or if you were going to be the next Pussycat Doll.
Looking back at your whole experience and achieving what you were able to achieve on the show, what did you take away from it all? Are there certain lessons or certain experiences that stood out to you?
I could not choose just one thing. There’s not just certain moments or certain things that stick out the most to me. It’s every single, every single moment, every single breath, every single conversation, every single thing on that show I’m taking with me. Every single phrase out of Robin’s mouth or Sarah’s mouth, Little Kim, Mikey, everybody had their criticism, everybody had you know the great things they said. But I’m not forgetting anything. I’m taking it all with me because I believe it can only help me in my endeavors and what I want to achieve in my life. And it was all such a great experience and a learning experience. That’s really what it was, was a learning experience. Because I’ve never been through anything like that before and to be able to go through that with such great and talented people. I mean there’s so many people who dream about that and I had that opportunity and I definitely lived it up and I definitely took it all in with gratitude and was grateful for all of it. So I can’t narrow it down to one thing, it was all one big lesson and a good lesson at that.
So what’s in store for you now Chelsea? What can fans expect?
So much more. I mean it’s a cliché now because every single girl says it the “oh this isn’t the end it’s just the beginning and you’re going to see so much more of me.” And I’m going to be a cliché because it isn’t the end and this is just the beginning and it is for all of us. I mean it’s not just me, it’s all of us: all the nine girls that made it into the house since day one. Brittany, Jamie, all of us. We all are going to be something in this industry and in this entertainment world and everybody’s going to see all of us because each of the nine girls are extremely talented. And so it’s not just me that they’re going to see, they’re going to see all of us. Maybe in different areas. Like I definitely would love to be signed and have a solo career and I would love to work with Ron Fair and still be working with Robin. I mean I would love to do that still, I mean I love to sing and I would love to do that for the rest of my life. And then every other girl, I mean I’m sure you’ll see them in all different other areas of entertainment. No matter what The Search for the Next Doll girls will always be around and entertaining people.
