Pee-Wee Herman (aka Paul Reubens) Joins Cast of 'Pushing Daisies'
Pushing Daisies is the consensus best new show of the fall season among the critical masses.  It's a little weird, however, portraying some dark material in a surreal fairy tale sort of way.  There's been lots of comparisons to Tim Burton's work when discussing Pushing Daisies, so it's only fitting that one of Burton's favorite actors, Paul Reubens (famous as Pee-Wee Herman), has been cast in a recurring role on the show.  Reubens will play “Alfredo Aldarisio, a traveling homeopathic antidepressant representative/salesman,” according to ThePieMaker.com.  That description is more than enough to understand the tone that Pushing Daisies is going for.  Man, this show is going to be fun.

Paul Reubens is a talented guy.  It's unfortunate that a little incident in an adult theater tainted his name and forever messed with his career.  Pee-Wee's Playhouse was an incredible kid's show, the type of program that was ostensibly geared for children but had enough under-the-radar humor that adults could (and did) enjoy.  Tim Burton's incredible debut was Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, which is still a classic and catapulted the character of Pee-Wee into the troposphere.  Also, to be honest, Big Top Pee-Wee holds a special place in my heart.  Since his 1991 arrest for, you know, the movie theater thing, Reubens has done the occasional bit part here and there.  His most significant recent role was probably in Blow as coke dealer and Johnny Depp's friend Derek Foreal.

A few years back, Reubens (who is now 55) stated that he was in the process of writing a new Pee-Wee film.  The likelihood of that movie coming to fruition isn't very good, but you never know.  If he can get Tim Burton on board, which isn't totally out of the realm of possibilities, then fans everywhere could rejoice.  Until then, we'll have to be happy with his bit parts in TV and film.
