Get ready for some bounty-hunting action on the midseason finale of USA Network's
Psych.
When an accused murderer goes on the run, America's favorite pseudo psychic, Shawn Spencer, and his best friend, Burton “Gus” Guster, decide to go after the fugitive themselves. Along the way, they meet their toughest competition, an actual bounty hunter whom they once idolized. Things get more complicated for the two when Shawn realizes the man they have been chasing is innocent of the crime.
Actor Kevin Sorbo, best known for playing Hercules on the USA Network's
Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, is set to guest star in the John Badham-directed season ender, aptly titled “Bounty Hunters.”
"We've always wanted to do a big, spectacular, high-action episode," creator Steve Franks told TV Guide, "so we hired John Badham [
WarGames] to direct, and we've just gone crazy."
Psych, a series about a man who passes off his extraordinary powers of observation as a psychic ability, debuted on the USA Network in July 2006. The cast includes
James Roday (
Miss Match),
Dule Hill (
The West Wing),
Timothy Omundson (
Judging Amy),
Maggie Lawson (
Smallville),
Kirsten Nelson (
Frasier, Ally McBeal, Just Shoot Me),
Corbin Bernsen (
General Hospital) and Sage Brocklebank (
Stargate SG-1, Smallville).
Last year, series star Roday was nominated for a Satellite Award for Best Actor in a Series, Comedy or Musical.
According to a network press release, the debut episode of
Psych drew 6.25 million viewers and ranked the highest-rated new scripted series premiere on basic cable last year. A ratings success, the show was renewed for a second season, which began airing on July 13.
Sorbo is only one of the several celebrities in
Psych's second season guest-star lineup. Among the other names are Tim Curry (
Charlie's Angels), Lou Diamond Phillips (
Numb3rs) and John Amos (
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, The West Wing).
The midseason finale of
Psych airs tonight at 10pm on USA Network. The series is expected to return with the seven remaining episodes of the second season early next year.
