BuddyTV is looking at the 17 new shows the major networks will premiere this Fall to see which ones are worth getting excited about and which ones we have low expectations for.
Show Description: Privileged (Formerly
Surviving the Filthy Rich) follows a 23-year-old named Megan with a Yale education working at a tabloid magazine. She's an aspiring journalist, but in one day Megan gets fired from her job, befriends a cosmetics mogul and is hired to become the live-in tutor of the mogul's two teen granddaughters.
When: Tuesdays at 9pm on The CW
Cast: Joanna Garcia, Ashley Newbrough, Lucy Hale, Michael Cassidy, Allan Louis
Anticipation: The heir apparent to
Gossip Girl, Privileged has the potential to be every bit as fun and scandalous. Though burdened by an awkward title (that will hopefully be changed by the time it premieres), the show's strength lies in its charming cast that is on the verge of breaking out. Joanna Garcia showed huge potential on
Reba, one of the most underrated sitcoms of the last decade, and has the talent and beauty to become a real star. Michael Cassidy is one hit teen role away from being on par with many of the CW's other pretty boys. The rich/poor dynamic has always been the backbone of successful teen dramas, so we're looking forward to seeing if this series can follow in the same vein as those other enjoyable shows.
Minority Opinion by Gina Scarpa: I don't know how else to say it. I'm just completely sick and tired of television shows about beautiful, rich young people. As a former fan of
Beverly Hills 90210 and
The O.C., I wanted to try to get into Gossip Girl but I bailed out after 10 minutes. Though the CW may feel that the lifestyle is intriguing to viewers, it's not one I identify with or care to tune in to watch.
Similar Shows: Gossip Girl is the clear impetus for this series. It's another peak into the world of the, ahem, filthy rich.
Beverly Hills 90210, The O.C. and
Dirty Sexy Money also come to mind.
