Timothy Daly was born on March 1, 1956 in New York City to actor James Daly and his wife. Daly was educated at Vermont's Bennington College where he studied theater and literature and acted in summer stock. His first leading film role was in a movie directed by Barry Levinson entitled Diner. He also appeared on Alan Rudolph's feature, Made in Heaven, the American Playhouse production of The Rise & Rise of Daniel Rocket, and the CBS dramatic series, Almost Grown. Daly has appeared on numerous Broadway productions and is well known for his role as Joe Hackett on the long-running NBC sitcom Wings. In 2006, he was cast for the role of Nick Cavanaugh on the ABC drama The Nine and a year later he was cast for the
Grey's Anatomy spin-off, Private Practice.
Dr. Peter "Pete" Finch is played by Tim Daly in the television series Private Practice. Pete is Oceanside's alternative medicine guru. He is a widower who distracts himself from his grief by having one-night stands with women, but immediately takes a liking to Addison Montgomery.
