'Private Practice' Star Grateful for Timely Blessings

Kate Walsh & Alex YoungWhile the writers' strike continues without any clear developments, TV Guide has had the chance to chat with Private Practice star, Kate Walsh, on the charmed life she's led this past year.  The actress, who recently turned 40, candidly shared a more private side of her life, particularly the side involving romance and marriage.

Walsh certainly had a banner year in 2007.  First she got her own series, spun off the hugely successful Grey's Anatomy, and then got engaged and eventually married a FOX top executive.  Private Practice's lead actress is the first to admit, however, that all her blessings came at just the right point in her life, when she has enough seasons and grace to handle them.

"If this all had happened to me when I was 25, I would have been shaving my head and driving over people's feet!"  Walsh told TV Guide over a plate of bacon and eggs at the Alcove Café in L.A.  The actress was alluding to the often tragic turn of events when success comes too early to an individual.  "But I know myself now," adding that at this stage, she “can appreciate it all."

"Oh, it'll slow down, but really, it's been like a wave and I've just been riding it,” Walsh responded when TV Guide commented on the year she just had.

Everything all seemed to begin in February, when her own series was officially announced and she met Alex Young, the man who would eventually become her husband.  TV Guide grilled Walsh on the whirlwind nature of her romance with the young FOX co-president of production.  It was reported that the pair moved in together the month after they met, got engaged in May and wed in September.

“Listen, you just know,” the Private Practice actress insisted.  “I met him at this work meeting where we ended up talking for two hours and it was just like boom! - love at first sight.  I know that sounds nauseating and you want to hit me, but it's true.

Asked what the best thing about marriage has been so far, Walsh replied, “The more everything was happening professionally, the more imperative it became to have someone to share it with.  'Cause [this kind of success] is so rewarding, but it is extreme and exhausting.”
