I have to admit that I was happy Wyatt didn’t kill Gretchen in the season premiere of
Prison Break. Too often, characters have been killed before we really got to know them and there seemed to be so much more to this member of The Company than meets the eye. After being tortured, and on the brink of death, Gretchen made a move last week to escape her captors and last night, showed up on her sister’s doorstep. Once safely inside, she asked her for the ceramic owl she once sent her from Germany. Gretchen busted that owl wide open right on the kitchen counter, grabbing a gun and credit cards that were hidden inside. Her sister responded in the only way she could think of, by asking, “Who are you?” Yeah, we’re wondering the same thing.
It was a huge twist and a shock to viewers when we found out that Gretchen's niece is actually her daughter. Understandably, when she shows up out of nowhere, her sister is concerned that she's here to take the child away from her that she has raised since infancy. No worries, though. Gretchen was never cut out to be a mother and probably never will be, and that's by her own admission.
Still, this appearance of a child raises more questions than ever about Gretchen's history: How did she become mixed up in The Company? Who is the father of her child? Why wasn't she fit to be a mother so many years ago? What is her relationship with her sister, her parents, her friends? Does she even have any friends? With rumors that this could be
Prison Break's last season, the show will hopefully address some of this character's personal history and what turned her into the kind of woman that could torture and kill people without batting an eyelash - or the kind of woman who could leave her daughter behind, without looking back.
How do you feel about Gretchen?
