Jim Callahan is featured as a contestant in the NBC network’s competitive reality television series Phenomenon. He originally hails from his hometown of Pittsburgh, PA, and presently resides in Beaufort, SC. When he was only seven years old, he watched a film about the legendary magician Houdini, and thus became hooked on stage magic and performing. Callahan would go on to explain several years later that the early stages of his career were mainly inspired by Houdini’s methods as an escape artist, coupled with Callahan’s own strong interest in the paranormal and the supernatural.
He also claims to be often accompanied by the restless spirit of a dead man whom he calls Raymond, and that Raymond communicates with him through the use of a pendulum. One of Callahan’s prime paranormal routines is called the Déjà vu Experiment, wherein he instructs a person to think of a city. At the same time, he also tells someone else to think of a number, while another one is told to think of an object. Callahan then presents a DVD where he would correctly and accurately predict in advance the choices that his subjects had just made before him.
