Ben Masters was born on May 6, 1947 in Corvallis, Oregon, and was educated at University of Oregon as a theater major. He later moved to New York to pursue an acting career, and appeared in the off-Broadway play The Boys In The Band. His other stage appearances include Captain Brassbound's Conversion with Ingrid Bergman and The Cherry Orchard with Meryl Streep. Masters then moved on to appear on television series such as Murder, She Wrote, Diagnosis, Murder, Touched by an Angel and Pensacola: Wings of Gold. In 1982, he appeared as Vic Strang on Another World and in 1999, he was cast as Julian Crane on the soap opera, Passions.

Julian Linus Crane is played by Ben Masters in the drama series, Passions. Julian is the first child of Alistair and Katherine Crane. He grew up to be like his father--wealthy, spoiled and immoral. Julian later fell in love with a young jazz singer by the name of Eve Johnson, who he influenced in using drugs and alcohol. He truly loved Eve, however he was arranged to marry another woman from a wealthy family, Ivy Winthrop. Even though Ivy and Julian's marriage was loveless, the couple had four children together.
