Let's look at the pros and cons of being Paris Hilton's best friend. Pros: You'd be in the media spotlight and become a household name. You'd get to go to all the hottest parties and clubs in every major city worldwide. You'd rub elbows with hot celebrities (especially male ones) from rock stars to movie stars. Now the cons: Well, you'd probably never have an intelligent conversation. Being mobbed by paparazzi can't be any picnic in the park. You'd probably end up with a member of the band Good Charlotte (yeah, that's a con). This fall, a group of wannabe Hiltons will ignore the cons and try to become Paris's best friend in a new MTV reality show entitled
Paris Hilton's My New BFF. Paris needs more than just an American best friend. Just when you thought you were safe in England, Paris jumps across the pond to find a dumb Brit to join her entourage, too!
Paris told BBC News what she was looking for in a new BFF and believe you me, her standards aren't all that high. "I need a best friend who is hot, who can keep up with me, and most of all, who is real and won't be a backstabber," she said. Basically, you just need to look good, be able to throw back drinks, and not repeat what is told to you in confidence. It doesn't exactly narrow down the field, does it? Last time I checked, didn't Paris backstab several of her own friends? Must I bring out the TMZ tape of the now infamous rant about Lindsay Lohan?
So why does Paris need BFFs in two different countries, you ask? "Everyone knows I love LA. But London, watch out - I'm coming to town and bringing my fast-paced life with me," Hilton said in a statement. "I'm in the UK all the time, but of course I can't bring all my friends, so I've decided to look for a new BFF across the pond." We're all pretty sure that it's because you were offered more money to do a UK version of the show - not that you need any more, Paris.
Just because we here at BuddyTV are negative about the new reality show doesn't mean our fellow Americans are. More than 85,000 people applied to be on Hilton's reality show and we'll find out who the finalists are when the series premieres on MTV September 30th. Someone should tell Paris that when looking for a reliable best friend that will be there no matter what, a reality competition is probably not the best place to find one.
Whose BFF would you want to be?
