Paris Hilton's My New BFF

My New BFF: It's Brittany. What's Next?

While writing about Paris Hilton's My New BFF, I remember spotting a comment on the MTV website saying that the show isn't really worth it.  That comment went along the lines of, nobody's going to be Paris' BFF anyway, regardless of who wins.  Well, maybe a part of you thought that it's just a big scripted reality-a-thon with no actual winners but the producers, Paris included.  But, of course, someone out there is bound to prove you wrong.  And that person happens to her new BFF, Brittany!

So what has she been up to since winning My New BFF anyway?  Of course, the show has been recorded a while back, and a winner has long been announced.  We haven't really seen Brittany out and about as the show went on—it's the confidentiality clause, obviously—but Paris has let slip, perhaps by accident, that the winner is a she.  Now that we know she's won, we can see her out and about, perhaps on the tabloids, but what about the time in between?

“I've been living in LA, working on my music and hangin' out with Paris a whole bunch,” she wrote on MTV's Remote Control blog.  “I see her almost every day, and if we're not together, we're probably texting.  I'm really looking forward to traveling more with her, as well as going out to clubs, staying in for movie nights, keeping each other company at our jobs, etc. etc.”

If you look back at the finale, Paris' reason for choosing Brittany over Vanessa was pretty simple: “I just fell in love with her,” she said.  “We laugh together, we have a lot in common, and I could just that she wants to be my friend because she genuinely likes me and not for other reasons.”

Looks like that's what happened. “When I'm out with Paris, it seems like we can go wherever—and do whatever—we want, and nobody will say ‘no,'” Brittany wrote.  “Everybody is so nice to us. Still, you can't really trust a lot of people.  There are desperate fans always crowding around her and being obsessive, like following the car and showing up in the bushes of friends' and families' homes to get pictures … It's way creepy.”

And one other thing that BFFs do?  Defend each other, of course.  “Despite what everyone may think, she gets it,” she wrote.  “She's not a ‘dumb [blonde]' or any of that other rude stuff people say. I really don't want to hear that kind of talk anymore—it's just plain ignorant and makes people seem so jealous … Not too many people besides her close friends and family get to know the real Paris Hilton.  She's actually very shy and timid, especially after taking so many beatings from the jealous/ignorant/money-hungry barbarians we call the media.”

Looks like we really will be seeing her around a lot now, eh?  From the beginning, I thought it was more about whether the wannabes can deal with Paris' frantic lifestyle.  But, as it went on, it became more about whether Paris can enjoy her new BFF's company or not.  Boom—there goes Brittany.

So you might expect the two together in film premieres, and in concerts, and when Paris finally launches her “Kylie-inspired” sophomore album, and maybe in My New BFF's British edition, titled, well, My New BBF? “British best friend” is what it means, by the way. And if you still have that tinge of cynicism in your head about all this, then keep it right there. Maybe this thing was never really for show, and will never be, in the first place.
